Humanizing Bios
You don’t need to live with a boring bio!
What if you had a bio that captured the essence of you and didn’t put people to sleep.
TL;DR version – all the text below is saying is that there is a better type of bio.
One that really showcases your personality, not just your accomplishments.
For $249 , we will rewrite your bio to really represent who you are, as well as what you do and what you have done!
(Feel free to skip to the bottom of the page now if you don’t feel like reading all about bios…)
Let’s talk Bios.
A biography – a bunch of words that describe who you are and what you do for people who might be interested in working with you, hiring you or maybe even dating you!
A biography, or simply bio, is a detailed description of a person’s life. It involves more than just the basic facts like education, work, relationships, and death; it portrays a person’s experience of these life events. Unlike a profile or curriculum vitae (résumé), a biography presents a subject’s life story.
Unfortunately, though, most professional Bios don’t follow that description.
Let’s face it. Most of these are really boring. I mean REALLY boring…
If you’re trying to impress someone, this is the snapshot of YOU that may make or break a future relationship.
Business deals have been won or lost over bios. It is the only thing that most people get to see of you to be able to make a decision on whether to hire you.
Where are bios used?
Chances are, if you’re reading this page, you probably know where bios are used. But just to recap:
- Websites
- Proposals
- RFPs
- Facebook Business Profiles
- Handouts for networking events
- And anywhere you want your best self to be seen
The long and the short of it!
In my consulting world, there are two types of bios.
- The long version for people (like me!) who ARE their business. You’ll notice my bio on my ‘about me’ page is looooooong. This is on purpose. It is to share my story with you. So you can really get to know me and understand what makes me tick. When you hire The Intentional Marketer, you’re hiring me and my expertise and all that history that comes with it. I’ve tried to bring you into my world by giving you my background story, and hopefully, you find this interesting.
- The short version to use on everything listed above. It is typically really really boring to read. It will probably include your skills, a little employment history and that’s about it. Blah blah blah….
But what the short version bios lack is personality.
Standing out in a sea of bios
Consider this… imagine reviewing a bunch of bios for a project you’re hiring for. You’ve been clear on the scope of the project so all interested companies have sent you their proposal, along with a stack of bios for people who will be working on your project.
Now – what do you expect to see? Pretty much the same type of information, right? Because you’ve got a specific project with specific skill sets needed, you’re likely to receive a bunch of bios that look similar with similar skills and expertise. So how can you stand out?
There IS a better way!
Fortunately, there are smart and creative people like Teresa Rosche Ott of A Fearless Venture who have thought of a better way.
A while back, Teresa realized the bios her team used to pitch for business were really boring and looked just like everyone else. She was also pretty realistic about where the bios would end up – in the recycle bin. So she decided to make a change. To put her team’s best creative foot forward and try to stand out in the pile.
She rewrote everyone’s bios and took new photos to go with these new engaging, ‘fun’ bios. Everyone loved them!
Humanizing your bio
The approach is simple – humanize your bio! Add in some of the personal flavors of the individual so people may really be able to connect with them, and know what makes them tick. Simple, but genius.
Over the years, ‘fun bios’ have become slightly more common, but most are still flavored ‘boring’. Teresa has had the joy of creating new bios for clients over the years but has decided to hand over the baton, so to speak, to me to continue to be able to help the boring bio gain some life!
Are you interested in a new bio?
I will work with you to understand you, your hobbies likes and dislikes while making sure your experience and expertise are still expressed in your new bio.
I will then craft your bio for your review.
You’ll have the opportunity to provide feedback in a round of reviews, and then it will be yours to use!
If you have a team, then we will work collectively to retain an overarching theme throughout the bios, while giving personal attention and flavor to each individual.
